Mezen painting appeared at the beginning of the XIX century in the lower reaches of the Mezen river of the Arkhangelsk region, Russia. Traditionally painted various household utensils - buckets, boxes, chests, etc.. Traditionally, objects painted by Mezen painting have only two colors - red and black.
A biscornu is a small (they are typically able to fit in the palm of your hand), 8-sided, stuffed ornamental pincushion or decorative pillow.
Usually the top and bottom of the cushion are decorated with embroidery. A button is typically secured in the center of the cushion to give a small depression on the top.
